Advanced Physics

Description: This is an advanced high school physics class intended to help students master the general concepts of classical physics and apply mathematics to those concepts. The topics covered in this class include motion, atomic theory, heat, waves, electricity and magnetism, and optics. This course is easily at an honors level, has clear measurable learning objectives, and will provide the necessary learning to take a CLEP or AP test in physics. It is worth 1 high school credit in Science.

Labs: This class has 3 required labs. Labs will be done in the virtual classroom and the students will not need any materials in the home.

Grade Level: 11-12 (ages 16-18)

Prerequisites & Special Notes: Successful completion of Trigonometry (typically included in Algebra II courses). This is a difficult class and mastery of higher levels of mathematics is essential. Taking pre-Calculus or Calculus concurrently is recommended. Students should expect to spend 60 minutes a day on non-class days and 30 minutes per day on class days.

Required Materials: Physics: Modeling Nature and Physics: Modeling Nature Solutions Manual
