Biology

Description: This class is an introduction to cell biology, genetics, taxonomy, microbiology, botany, zoology, and ecology. This class is worth 1 high school credit in Science. The laboratory components of this class include at-home experiments that utilize common household objects, as well as virtual laboratories and dissections. This class uses 11 experiments, including 4 dissections (see required materials below). More information will be provided to the students.  This class is worth 1 high school credit in Science.

Grade Level: 9-12 (ages 14-18) (students must be at least in 9th grade)

Prerequisites: None

Required Materials: Novare’s General Biology. The following dissection materials will also be required and must be purchased by early February: Introductory Dissection Kit (Grasshopper, Earthworm, Frog)Perch Specimen, and Perch Dissection Guide. Other items needed throughout the year include fruit, a flower, and a few items commonly found in the home. Details will be available the week each project is assigned. Students will also need a USB headset microphone (built-in microphones also work).
