Latin and Greek

Students should take Henle Latin I: Units 1-5 if ready, or continue with whatever course builds on the Latin taken previously. If your student has no Latin background, then First Form Latin is recommended. In addition, students may wish to begin their study of Greek.

Classical Composition

For students continuing in the Classical Composition method, Common Topic is recommended. Students unfamiliar with Classical Composition should take High School Composition I or Foundations of Composition. Alternatively, another composition course may also be suitable. View all of our composition offering here.

Classical Studies

Students can take any of the Classical Studies courses, but students with no background in Classical Studies should begin with Classical Studies I.

Literature

Students have a number of literature options, but one of the following literature courses would be suitable for this grade level.

Science

Depending on interest, students should take Physical Science, Earth Science, or another appropriate science course.

Mathematics

Students should take Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, or another appropriate math course.

Modern History

In eighth grade, Classical Studies I is sufficient for a Modern History class. View the other history courses here

Logic

Students can take Traditional Logic I and Traditional Logic II as semester courses. Traditional Logic can be delayed until high school if needed, but many find it helpful to take before 9th grade because they do not have the time for these courses in high school.

Geography

Geography III is the best option for eighth graders looking for a geography course.
