High School Composition IV

Description: This is the next step in Classical Composition sequence, which is based on the “progymnasmata,” a system of writing instruction that was the primary method of teaching and learning writing for most of the history of Western civilization. Students will review most of the previous stages and then move on to study Thesis/Law. Students will need to devote approximately 45-60 minutes per day for this class. The grade is based on participation and final drafts, which are turned in each week and graded by the instructor. This class is worth 0.5 high school credits in English, Language Arts, Writing, or Composition.

Grade Level: 11-12 (ages 16-18)

Prerequisites: Completion of Characterization and Description. Students should be proficient with English grammar, be able to write grammatically complete sentences, construct paragraphs, and edit their work.

Required Materials: Classical Composition IX: Thesis & Law Set from Memoria Press. Also, students will need their Classical Composition Student Guides from all prior levels to use as review. We highly recommend that parents purchase the Teacher Guide for spot-checking. Students will also need a USB headset microphone (built-in microphones also work).
