Arlene Roemer da Feltre

Arlene grew up in New York City and received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from McGill University. When she discovered the renaissance of classical education for teaching young students, she found a perfect fit with her love of philosophy. Some of her fondest memories from her school days are of participating in two archeological digs in England. During and after college, Arlene worked in the field of research both in the sciences and humanities. Later, she ventured into the editorial field (proofreading, fact checking, and editing). While home schooling her two wonderful children, she began to tutor many other students, mostly in writing. Arlene has worked for Memoria Press since 2006 (when there was only a handful of staff). She has worked as an editor for and taught online webinars on The Lost Tools of Writing for CiRCE Institute. Arlene presently resides in Livingston, Montana, surrounded by the glorious Rocky Mountains. Her ideal job description would be “having conversations with young people.” In teaching writing, she combines her experience of teaching with working in the world of professional publications in order to teach writing as a craft, helping her students to use the tools of English to a high level of excellence to express wisdom, virtue, and beauty. She sees her goal in teaching both writing and literature as helping students to “organize” their minds and, as in the classical tradition, to learn how to be good members of their communities.
